Activities for raising public awareness about coronavirus
Chuadanga District
Placing billboards to create public awareness on coronavirus: On last 25 March 2020 afternoon a billboard was placed in Chuadanga court mor area to create public awareness for preventing deadly coronavirus on behalf of WAVE Foundation. A brief campaigning event was organized on unveiling the billboard at Chuadanga court mor area. Employees of different levels of the organization were present on the occasion. In the program, it was focused how we can combat against the influence and prevent the coronavirus.
Campaigning event in Darshana: WAVE Foundation base office and WAVE Trade Training Center had organized a campaigning event to raise public awareness about the infection of coronavirus and preventing measures in Darshana bus stand area on last 25 March 2020. The presence of Darshana Municipal panel Mayor Mr. Rabiul Islam Shumon, President of Darshana bus stand bazaar committee Mr. Hayder Ali, Editor and publisher of the Daily Shokaler Khoj-Khobor, General Secretary of bus stand bazaar committee Mr. Mohammod Kamal Uddin Ahmed Santu, General Secretary of Darshana Press Club Mr. Awal Hossan, Former president of the Press Club Mr. Ikramul Haque Pipul, and the employees of different levels from WAVE Foundation base office and training center made this program a success. In the program what we can do to prevent and combat this coronavirus was thoroughly discussed with frequent hand wash techniques, and to create public awareness one festoon (18-feet long and 4-feet wide) was hanged in the bus stand turning area.
Joint campaign and miking initiative by the organization and Jibannagar upazila Loak Morcha: A campaign event was organized to raise awareness about the deadly coronavirus infection and its effects in a joint venture of the WAVE Foundation and Jibannagar upazila Loak Morcha on last 27 March 2020 at the traffic crossing of Jibannagar upazila. Mrs. Ayesha Akhter Lucky, Vice Chairman of Jibannagar Upazila; Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, President of upazila Loak Morcha, General secretary of chairman association, Chairman of Uthali union; Mr. Abu Md. Abdul Latif Amal, General secretary of upazila Loak Morcha and former upazila chairman; Mr. Khalilur Rahman, former chairman of Banka union; President and General secretary in Loak Morcha of the 8 unions of Jibannagar upazila; Representatives of the local Daily newspapers, along with staff from different levels of the WAVE Foundation attended the program. The event was held to raise public awareness in the municipal areas and in all the villages of Hasadah, Banka and Shimanto Union in the upazila on March 28 and 29 to discuss the coronavirus influence and to prevent the transmission of infection.
Spreading disinfectant and miking in various streets of Darshana Municipality: By the initiative of the organization’s base office on last 7 April 2020, to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus, disinfectant were sprayed on various streets of all the wards in the Municipal and day-long miking was done to raise public awareness for preventing the harmful effects of coronavirus.
Distribution of leaflets for public awareness: From last 25 March 2020, one thousand (1000) leaflets for raising public awareness prepared by the organization on coronavirus issues were distributed to people of different levels in almost all areas of Chuadanga district to combat and prevent the coronavirus.
Meherpur District
Distribution of leaflets for public awareness: In every working areas of Meherpur district one thousand (1000) leaflets prepared by the organization were distributed to the people of different levels for raising public awareness on coronavirus issues.
Barisal District
Organized youth’s initiative for raising public awareness: During the last 20-25 March 2020, when the government launched various campaigns to raise awareness among the common people about the prevention of coronavirus, at that time a group of youth organized by the organization of Bakerganj under the ‘Empowering Youth for Work’ project went to village-to-village on their own initiative and arranged open yard meeting to raise public awareness about frequent hand washing. In addition, the habit of hand washing inspired among the 600 students of 3 unions in Bakerganj upazila and practical demonstration was given on how to wash the hands to prevent the coronavirus. With the help of 8 staff and officers youths led the campaign to create awareness among the 1200 community members of all these unions by writing down things to do to in festoons for preventing the spread of the coronavirus. Besides, they are working restlessly to raise public awareness in all the 6 unions of upazila and keeping social distance from 1st of April.
Spreading disinfectant and miking: Youths took initiative to spread disinfectant in religious institutions, hats-bazaars and roads in various areas of Bakerganj and conducted miking thoroughly for raising public awareness.
Dhaka metropolis
Distribution of leaflets and miking for public awareness: Miking and awareness-raising leaflets were distributed among the public and pedestrians in various areas of Dhaka metropolitan area to deal with coronavirus effects and prevent infection.
Spreading disinfectant: For preventing the coronavirus disinfectant was sprayed on various roads-footpaths, Mosques, Bazaars and other areas in Shyamoli and Adabor area.
Magura District
Leaflets distribution for public awareness: During the last 24-25 March 2020, 500 leaflets were distributed among the public in various areas of Sreekol and Sabdalpur unions in Sreepur upazila for raising awareness and preventing the coronavirus.
Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Bhola, Patuakhali and Barguna Districts
Postering and leaflets distribution: On last 24 and 25 March 2020, Organization’s ‘Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh Project’ working areas of 248 unions under 29 upazilas of 6 districts (Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Bhola, Patuakhali and Barguna) under Barishal and Khulna divisions, to rescue the people from the risk of this coronavirus danger, 15000 leaflets ( 50 copies in each
union, 60 copies in upazila and 80 copies in district) were distributed. Special posters published by donor organizations of this project likely Local government sector, European Union and UNDP were pasted (20 in each union making the total of 9860) in the various unions under the project. The staff and officers employed at union, upazila and district level of the project were responsible for distributing leaflets and postering.
Public awareness building activities for preventing coronavirus in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Manikganj, Khulna, Jessore, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Magura, Jhenaidah, Kushtia, Pabna, Natore, Rajshahi, Patuakhali and Barguna districts
Leaflets distribution: Under the demonstration of organization’s ‘Community Finance’ program 35000 leaflets were distributed in 15 districts of Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi and Barishal divisions as part of public awareness program for preventing coronavirus. Working areas in District and upazila administration, Upazila parishad, Municipality and union parishad of 73 upazilas of 15 district, businesspeople, rickshaw pullers, van drivers and pedestrians were covered in this program. Besides, the leaflets were distributed to the members of the various associations to the village level, through the officers and staff of the unit offices under the organization demonstration of the area. Lessons with elaborate explanation were provided. Through this process a total number 140,000 people from the urban to rural area have gained awareness to prevent this deadly coronavirus.
