Meet Jahanara Khatun, a woman from the East Abdalpur village in Harinarayanpur union of Kushtia Sadar upazila, who has turned her family’s life around with sheer hard work and determination. Her inspiring journey is a testament to the power of determination and the difference that small but impactful loans can make in the lives of people. With the unwavering support of her husband, Md. Moniruzzaman, Jahanara joined the ‘Janata Mahila Samiti’ of the Harinarayanpur branch of WAVE Foundation’s loan program to achieve a better standard of living. After receiving a loan of Tk 2000 from WAVE Foundation, Jahanara invested in goat farming and became a successful entrepreneur, lifting her family out of poverty and into profitability.
Jahanara’s goat rearing business was not an overnight success. It took her years of hard work and determination to expand her business by taking loans, but her efforts did not go in vain. With her strategic planning and dedication, she managed to pay off all her debts and even accumulated some capital. To take things to the next level, her husband Moniruzzaman joined the business, and they decided to expand it to cow husbandry. With the help of the organization’s ‘Ujjibito’ project, Moniruzzaman learned the art of cow fattening and took a loan of Tk 30,000 to support the expansion.
Ever since, the couple Jahanara and Moniruzzaman have continued to progress. The couple’s journey is truly inspiring, and it shows how hard work and determination can lead to success. Their financial stability has increased through rearing more cows, receiving loans, and successfully repaying those loans. Currently, Jahanara’s loan ceiling is between 2 to 3 lakh BDT. Her cow farm consists of approximately 25 cows, including 4 Friesian cows.
Jahanara Khatun is a well-known figure in the Harinarayanpur area and serves as an inspiration for many. She has accomplished a tremendous feat by constructing her own house complete with sanitary latrines. Her children attend reputable schools and colleges. When asked about her achievement, she said, “I hope my story can inspire others to take charge of their lives and create their own opportunities. Thanks to the incredible support of the WAVE Foundation, I was able to secure a loan and start my own business, which has now created jobs for many others. I believe that with a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard, anyone can achieve success and make a meaningful impact in their community.”
