In a significant step towards promoting agroecological farming practices, WAVE Foundation and Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and practical farming, opening new possibilities for expanding agroecological practices across Bangladesh.

The signing ceremony took place on Monday, March 3, 2025, in the Vice-Chancellor’s conference room at SAU. The MoU was signed by WAVE’s Founder and Executive Director, Mohsin Ali and SAU’s Registrar, Sheikh Rezaul Karim, in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdul Latif.

This collaboration aims to integrate research and field-level activities to advance agroecology, a science-based approach to sustainable agriculture that benefits farmers while preserving the environment. Through this agreement, WAVE and SAU will work together to enhance scientific knowledge for farmers, promote market-driven production, and contribute to implementing government policies. These efforts will play a vital role in achieving Bangladesh’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By reducing dependence on chemical inputs, farmers will be equipped to produce safe food, maintain soil health, and preserve biodiversity. This initiative is expected to strengthen food and nutrition security and address climate change challenges in Bangladesh.

Expressing gratitude to PKSF and WAVE, SAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abdul Latif said, “The future of agriculture in Bangladesh depends on sustainable and eco-friendly practices. This initiative by PKSF and WAVE Foundation will not only enhance farmers’ skills at the grassroots level but also provide our students with practical learning opportunities.” Highlighting the organisation’s longstanding contribution to the agricultural sector, WAVE’s Executive Director Mohsin Ali stated, “Agroecology is the only way to ensure safe food. WAVE is committed to equipping farmers with research-driven knowledge to achieve this goal.”

Several dignitaries attended the signing ceremony, including SAU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Belal Hossain, Professor Dr. A.K.M. Ruhul Amin, Professor Dr. Mohammad Mahbub Islam, PKSF’s RMTP Project Coordinator Habibur Rahman, Sector Value Chain Specialist (Horticulture) Rafizul Islam Mondal, and WAVE’s Program Focal for Agri-Food Systems Transformation Nirmal Das, among other officials.
