An exceptional award ceremony was organized by the agricultural unit of WAVE Foundation on June 23, 2025, at the Go Green Center in Chuadanga. Six successful agricultural entrepreneurs, two female and four male farmers, were honored at this event. Sharmin Akter, Deputy Director of the Chuadanga Local Government Ministry, attended as the chief guest. In her speech, she stated, “Such initiatives are capable of bringing a strong positive change among farmers. Those who have taken new initiatives in the agricultural sector have enriched not only their own families but also the entire society.” This year, agricultural entrepreneurs were honored in the agriculture, fisheries, and livestock sectors. Each of them has achieved significant success in their respective fields. Let us learn about their activities: 

  1. Md. Saiful Islam (Vegetable Production): Md. Saiful Islam of Bishnupur village, Damurhuda Upazila, started his vegetable cultivation initiative on ten decimals of land with BDT 5,000 only. With training and loans from WAVE, he expanded his venture. His capital now stands at BDT 80,000 and he profits approximately BDT 45,000 annually. Currently, his cultivated land spans ten bighas.
  2. Md. Hafizur Rahman (Compost Fertilizer Production): He started with small-scale vermicompost fertilizer production. With the assistance of WAVE, he is now successfully producing trichocompost fertilizer and has gradually expanded his business with BDT 50 lakh in loan assistance. Additionally, he currently has an investment of BDT 45 lakh. His entrepreneurial journey has not only benefited himself but has also created employment for 15-17 from his community.
  3. Md. Amir Hossain (Minnow Production): Amir Hossain of Boyra village started fish farming on his 33 decimals of land alongside paddy cultivation to improve his family’s financial well-being. With the support of WAVE, he succeeded in minnow production and is now producing on 16 bighas of land.
  4. Sujan Kumar Halder (Fish Farming): Sujan Halder of Parkrishnapur village, Damurhuda Upazila, started fish farming in 2005. Having no pond of his own, he initially leased 2 bighas of pond to begin fish farming. With his indomitable courage and the assistance of WAVE, he is currently farming fish on 100 bighas of land.
  5. Swapna Khatun (Goat Rearing): Swapna Khatun of Koshaghata village started goat rearing to support her husband’s financially struggling family. She began with three goats. Later, after receiving special training on shed-based goat rearing from WAVE, she took a loan to expand her farm. Currently, her farm has 14 goats, with a market value of approximately BDT 1.5 lakh.
  6. Shilu Mondal (Sheep Rearing): Shilu Mondal started his farm in 2024 with 4 sheep. Currently, his farm has 30 sheep, with a market value of approximately BDT 4 lakh. He supports his family expenses, purchases land and covers house construction costs through sheep rearing. WAVE has played a leading role in increasing his production by ensuring the use of vaccines, dewormers, and disinfectants.

For information, WAVE Foundation is continuously working on the development of the agricultural sector. With funding from PKSF, the organization has played an effective role in improving the livelihoods of agricultural entrepreneurs in Chuadanga district over the past five years by providing various training, loan assistance, technological advice, and necessary support for skill development.
