Kohinoor-Azizul Haque is now a name of inspiration in the Baleshwarpur village. Kohinoor said, “When I remember the early days of my married life, I get overwhelmed with pain. But looking at my current situation, I find absolute peace”.

Kohinoor Khatun, a successful entrepreneur overcame poverty by rearing cows. She is from Baleswarpur village of Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga district. Kohinoor (39), a child of a poor family, was forcibly married off at the age of 12. Immediately after marriage, she realized there is no such thing as comfort in her husband’s world, only lack and misery all the time. When Kohinur’s parents were told about the plight of the poor girl, they were unable to provide any financial support.

To change the continuous misery, Kohinoor consulted with her husband Azizul Haque. In 2013, Kohinoor started cow breeding by buying two cows. As cow rearing is profitable, she planned to increase the number of cows. After joining WAVE Foundation’s Gholdari Unit, Boleshorpur, Surabhi took a loan of BDT 30,000 as capital.

Since then, Kohinoor has been expanding the farm gradually. Till now she has received seven rounds of loans from WAVE. She has taken a loan of BDT 1 lakh from WAVE till date and her farm currently has thirty-seven cows. A full-time worker is also employed to maintain the farm. By rearing cows, Kohinoor is now making a profit of around BDT 2.5 lakh every year. The family of Kohinoor is now financially stable. She has married off her two daughters to good families from the income of the farm and now educating her only son.

Kohinoor Khatun expressed heartfelt gratitude to the WAVE Foundation for supporting her dream of overcoming poverty for a long time.
