Who says destiny cannot be rewritten? With a fierce belief in herself, Most. Razia Khatun of Keshabpur village, nestled in the heart of Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah district, has transformed her fate.  Married at the tender age of 15, Razia faced the grim realities of life as financial struggles loomed over her household like dark clouds. Yet, amidst the looming despair, she chose not to succumb. Instead, she urged her husband to explore new avenues for improving their lives.

In 2016, while working alongside her husband in their daily struggles, Razia crossed paths with WAVE Foundation. Recognizing her potential and keen desire for change, WAVE’s representative provided her much-needed encouragement and guidance. WAVE not only introduced her to the idea of taking a small loan but also laid out a roadmap for income-generating activities that would improve her family’s financial situation. With an initial investment of 20,000 taka secured from WAVE’s Jibannagar unit, Razia purchased a cow. Razia dedicated herself to raising it with care and attention. Razia invested time in learning about cattle care and seeking advice from more experienced farmers. She understood the importance of regular veterinary check-ups and vaccinations to keep the cow healthy and productive. The profits from selling the cow brought her not just financial gain but a newfound belief in her potential.

Emboldened by her success and the ongoing support from WAVE, Razia began an ambitious journey, progressively taking on more loans BDT 1,00,000, then 3,00,000, and ultimately 4,00,000 to expand her growing cattle farm. Each step was enhanced by the valuable training and insights provided by the WAVE Foundation that illuminated her path. Today, the small farm she manages is home to nine healthy cows. From the fruits of her labor, she has acquired 10 kathas of land, erected a sturdy one-story concrete house, and cultivated 3 bighas of farmland. With each achievement, her family’s income has increased, improving their food security and opening the way for dreams once thought unreachable.

With the comprehensive support of WAVE whose commitment went beyond mere financial assistance Razia improved her skills and knowledge, blossoming into a source of inspiration for the women in her village. WAVE’s guidance not only provided her with the tools to improve her livelihood but also fostered her confidence to envision a better future for herself and her family. Reflecting proudly Razia says, “When I look at my nine cows, my own land, and the house we built, I feel proud that my hard work with WAVE’s support has given my children a secure future. I no longer fear poverty.”

From the oppressive grip of poverty, Razia has stepped into the welcoming arms of opportunity. She proves that poverty is not an insurmountable barrier; rather, it can serve as the first step toward a life rich with success and fulfillment, fueled by the transformative support of organizations like WAVE Foundation.
