Dip Debnath, the eldest of two children, grew up under the guidance of his father, Dilip Kumar Debnath, a small business owner specializing in computer composition and photocopying services in a small village of Barishal District. After completing his SSC, Dip followed his father’s advice and pursued a diploma in computer science. He began assisting in the family business but harbored dreams of establishing his own venture.
An encounter with WAVE Foundation’s staff proved to be a turning point. Dip shared his aspirations, and upon their suggestion, he attended a three-day soft skills training followed by a three-month vocational training in electrical work. During this period, Dip stumbled upon a YouTube video on building poultry egg incubators. Intrigued, he collaborated with his mentor to learn and master the craft of making incubators, eventually starting to sell them. With newfound confidence and skills, Dip participated in a five-day entrepreneurial development training through the WAVE Foundation. Conducting thorough market research, he invested 10,000 Taka to build a poultry shed on his rooftop, starting with 10 local chickens. As the hens began laying eggs, Dip used his self-made incubators to hatch chicks. He expanded his operation, creating separate sheds for different ages and breeds of chickens.
Today, Dip owns four incubators and manages a thriving poultry business with 150 Local chickens, 200 Saumi chickens, and 150 Sonali chickens. He sells the mature Sonali chickens and uses the Local and Faumi breeds for egg production. His incubators now hatch eggs regularly, and he has started selling the chicks.
Dip’s dedication and persistence paid off while he demonstrated great courage by choosing to follow his own path despite his family’s disapproval. His venture ‘Dip Agro’ has become a flourishing business with assets worth 2 lakh BDT. He impressively earns a monthly income ranging from 15000 to 20000 BDT. Looking ahead, Dip dreams of leasing a nearby vacant lot to establish a large hatchery. This expansion would create job opportunities for local youth and help meet the community’s protein needs. Dip’s journey from a small-town assistant to a successful, independent entrepreneur reflects his resilience, innovation, and unwavering ambition.
“Pursuing one’s passion can result in significant success. With perseverance and commitment, we can make our dreams come true and have a meaningful impact”, Dip’s eyes lit up with passion as he spoke about his remarkable poultry firm, Dip-Agro. With every word he uttered, it was clear that his heart and soul were poured into the business. His dedication and enthusiasm were truly infectious, leaving everyone around him feeling inspired and eager to learn more.
