According to the International Labor Organization-ILO, at present 152 million children are working as child labor in the world. UN Sustainable Development Goal Target 8.7 set by the international community calls for an end to child labor in all its forms by 2025. To that end, World Day against Child Labor is observed on 12th June around the world. This year the slogan of the day was ‘Children Shouldn’t Work on Field, But on Dreams’. To mark the importance of the day, WAVE Foundation organized a Sharing Meeting titled ‘World Day against Child Labor 2019 and the Current Circumstances’ on 12 June 2019 at Hotel Warisan, Rajshahi with the assistance of Manusher Jonno Foundation-MJF. Honorable Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, Mr. A H M Khairuzzaman Litongraced the event as the Chief Guest. Mr. Mohammad Abdus Salam, Ex. Register, Rajshahi University, Rajshahi chaired the event. Mr. Md. Rasidul Kabir, Deputy Director, Department of Social Welfare, Rajshahi, Mr. Akbarul Hasan Millat, Acting Editor, The Daily Sonar Desh, Rajshahi and Mr. Pablo Narudha, Coordinating Officer, Child Rights, MJF were also present as the honorable guests. Mr. Anwar Hossain, Deputy Executive Director, WAVE Foundation delivered the Welcome Speech. Dr. Murshida Ferdous Binte Habib, Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Rajshahi presented the keynote paper. Experts and guests at the Sharing Meeting stressed the urgent need of appropriate initiatives to stop child labor in all forms.
