One hundred unemployed young women and men have begun a three-month residential technical training programme aimed at building practical skills and creating pathways to employment and self-employment. The 4th batch of the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation (SICIP) Project was inaugurated on 3 August 2026 at WAVE Trade Training Center in Darshana, Chuadanga, marking another step in WAVE Foundation’s efforts to equip disadvantaged youth with market-oriented skills.
Md. Sharifuzzaman Sharif, newly appointed Administrator of Chuadanga District Council, attended the event as the Chief Guest. The inauguration ceremony began with a welcome address by Mr. Abdus Salam, Project Focal Person. The SICIP Project is implemented by WAVE Foundation with support from Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and financial assistance from the Finance Division, Ministry of Finance, Government of Bangladesh and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Md. Sharifuzzaman Sharif appreciated WAVE Foundation’s initiative and emphasized the importance of skills development in reducing unemployment and promoting economic self-reliance. He encouraged trainees to participate sincerely, maintain discipline and stay away from drug abuse and online gambling. He also called for wider outreach to ensure more disadvantaged youth can access such training opportunities.
The 100 trainees are enrolled in four trades- Mobile Phone Servicing, Graphic Design, Fashion Garments and Electrical Installation & Maintenance. Through its Trade Training Center, WAVE provides residential, practical and industry-relevant training designed to prepare participants for employment and self-employment. Under SICIP, the project aims to facilitate employment or self-employment for at least 65% of trained participants.
The Chief Guest visited the training laboratories and interacted with trainees, expressing satisfaction with the facilities and learning environment. The initiative will continue to strengthen demand-driven training, industry linkages, job placement and self-employment support, further contributing to WAVE Foundation’s efforts to promote inclusive skills development and sustainable economic opportunities for disadvantaged youth.
