A total of 63 low-income villagers from Uthali and Hawli Unions in Chuadanga district regained their eyesight through a free cataract surgery campaign implemented by WAVE Foundation under the ENRICH program, with strategic support from PKSF and Orbis International. The initiative ensured comprehensive eye care services, covering community screening, surgical treatment and post-operative care.

As part of the implementation process, a full-day orientation and training session was conducted for 22 core staff members including the ENRICH focal person. The session combined theoretical and practical learning and was facilitated by two ToT experts. Following the plan developed during training, Health Officers and Health Visitors conducted household visits and eye screenings using Orbis International’s digital application. Through this process, 225 suspected cataract patients were identified in Uthali Union and 215 in Hawli Union.
Following coordination with Orbis International, a specialized medical team from Makka Eye Hospital, Meherpur, conducted clinical assessments on 15 April 2026 in Uthali and 16 April 2026 in Hawli. After examinations, 70 patients from Uthali and 54 from Hawli were shortlisted for surgery. The selected patients were later transported to Makka Eye Hospital on 18 April and 25 April for surgical procedures. On the scheduled dates, 63 patients (40 from Uthali and 23 from Hawli) were safely transported and underwent successful cataract operations under expert supervision. All patients returned with post-operative care instructions.

Subsequent home visits by ENRICH staff confirmed steady recovery among all beneficiaries. Patients and families expressed deep gratitude for the restoration of vision and quality care received throughout the process. One beneficiary shared, “I had almost lost hope of seeing clearly again. This surgery has given me a new lease on life, allowing me to work, move independently, and regain my confidence.”
The campaign received strong appreciation from local government representatives, community leaders and other key community stakeholders. Beyond restoring vision, the initiative reflects a shared commitment to improving the quality of life of marginalized communities through accessible and quality eye care services.
