At just 24 years old, Mohadeb Kumar Das from Godaraghat, Mirpur, Dhaka has redefined his life story. When he first left his village and came to the city, Mohadeb was filled with uncertainty, carrying the heavy weight of despair and hopelessness. With no clear plan for the future, he was one of many young people searching for a path out of joblessness.
His turning point came when he learned about the Recovery and Advancement of Informal Sector Employment (RAISE) Project through Mr. AGM Russell, a Master Craftsperson at WAVE Foundation. Driven by the desire to change his future, Mohadeb enrolled in a six-month apprenticeship training on Motorcycle Service. WAVE’s intervention didn’t stop at technical training, he also attended a five-day Life Skills training program designed to equip youth with leadership, conflict resolution, teamwork, communication, negotiation, and customer relations skills. These sessions not only built his technical confidence but also helped him grow personally, shaping his outlook toward entrepreneurship.
Armed with both technical expertise and soft skills, Mohadeb dared to dream. After completing his training, he established his own motorcycle service shop, MOTOPLAY in Godaraghat. What started as a small initiative soon turned into a growing business. Today, MOTOPLAY employs three technicians and generates an average monthly income of around BDT 40,000 providing Mohadeb with both financial independence and dignity.
“When I started, I had nothing but uncertainty. WAVE Foundation’s training gave me the skills and courage to open MOTOPLAY. Now, I not only earn for myself but also provide jobs to others,” shared Mohadeb with pride.
His achievements have positioned him as an inspiration within his community. Every motorcycle he fixes enhances his reputation, fosters trust among customers, and motivates other unemployed youth to realize that change is possible with the right support. He is thankful to RAISE Project and his Ostad (Master Craftsperson) for guiding him from a place of despair to one of success.
