WAVE Foundation, under the ‘Pathways to Prosperity for Extremely Poor People (PPEPP-EU)’ project funded by the European Union, organized a week-long COVID-19 awareness campaign in Galachipa Upazila, Patuakhali. Starting from June 14, 2025, this effort aimed to raise awareness among approximately 20 thousands people. As part of the project activities, discussions on COVID-19 prevention were held with members of PVCs, adolescent social development centers, mother and child forums, and disability forums in Galachipa. Participants were informed about the nature of the virus, modes of transmission, symptoms, and preventive measures. To enhance awareness, announcements were made via loudspeakers, leaflets were distributed, and posters and banners were displayed across four unions of Galachipa (Galachipa Sadar, Ratandi Talatali, Gazalia, Golkhali). By coordinating with mosque committees, messages about COVID-19 prevention were broadcast during Friday sermons and before daily prayers, ensuring awareness among local residents. Similar awareness activities were conducted in other religious institutions as well.

For information, Coronavirus is an RNA virus that infects the respiratory tracts of mammals, including humans and birds. It can cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to severe diseases like SARS, MERS, and COVID-19. The term ‘corona’ comes from the crown-like shape of the virus, visible under an electron microscope.
